We all lose our cool from time to time. It is a natural human emotion. But when you notice that you feel angry more often that usual, or if anger seems to be affecting your physical health, it’s time to look at ways you can manage it and help yourself to feel calmer.
The immune system is the body's defence against diseases and infections. It attacks organisms and substances that invade the body and cause disease (known as pathogens) through a series of steps called the immune response. As we get older our sleeping patterns and routines can change making us more likely to wake during the night or early morning. The recommended amount of sleep per night is 7-9 hours. If you lose a night or two of sleep, or sleep poorly, you may feel groggy and irritable. Long-term liver damage can cause scarring which is called cirrhosis. Scar tissue on the liver prevents it from working properly. If you have liver cirrhosis it is usually picked up through a routine blood test or checkup, because early-stage cirrhosis of the liver doesn’t usually have any symptoms.
Bowel cancer is cancer that starts in the large bowel. It is also known as colorectal cancer, colon or rectal cancer depending on if it starts in the large bowel (your colon) or rectum. It can spread to other parts of the body or grow into the surrounding organs. Bowel cancer is not the same as anal cancer or small bowel cancer. Most people that are diagnosed with bowel cancer are over the age of 60 but bowel cancer is currently one of the most common cancers diagnosed in the UK.
