23 November 2018

In July 2018, Alan Fleming retired as a Non-Executive Director (NED). After considering the importance of broadening the skills and diversity of the Board, refreshing its thinking, and succession planning, the CSH Board of Directors decided to recruit two Non-Executive Directors.

Recruitment consultants Warren Partners were appointed to use their sector knowledge to identify suitable candidates.  A strong shortlist of candidates were interviewed by a panel of CSH Directors. The new Non-Executive Directors appointed are Fiona McAnena and Nicola Bruce.  Both bring a wealth of experience and complementary skills in support of the Society’s Strategy.

Fiona McAnena

Fiona is an experienced NED with a broad experience in creating and executing consumer and customer-led strategies in business to business and direct to consumer.
She has worked with businesses of all sizes, from multi-nationals to start –ups; on growth challenges across many different sectors and cultures. Her executive roles include CEO at MEC, a company within WPP plc; Vice President of Innovation with PepsiCo and Global Brand Director with Bupa,  where she was responsible for defining a new brand strategy which enabled a business wide brand-led transformation.  She initiated Bupa’s first worldwide view of its products and services and launched a web-based collaboration to speed up innovation.

Fiona is strong facilitator and consensus builder who brings the voice of the customer into the boardroom.  With both Private Medical Insurance and diverse sector experience, she brings a refreshing and wider perspective to the CSH Board of Directors.

Nicola Bruce

Nicola is an experienced NED with a strategic mind-set and is a strong advocate for vulnerable consumers. She has been a Director of the Government’s Money Advice Service since 2015 where she chairs the Investment Committee, responsible for funding innovation in advisory services for people with problem debt, as well as many financial education initiatives.   She is also a Director of Hanover Housing Association, one of the UKs largest specialist providers of accommodation and services for older people where she chairs the Development Committee, responsible for building homes for elderly and vulnerable people.

During her executive career, Nicola was a Partner of the international strategy boutique, The Monitor Company (now Deloitte) where she led growth strategy and consumer marketing projects for major fast moving consumer good brands (FMCG).  She was also Director of Strategy and Business Development with De La Rue plc.  She continues to provide strategic support to UK businesses in the property and financial services sector.

Nicola values businesses with a social conscience and confidently brings current and relevant NED experience, business acumen, financial capabilities and corporate governance experience to the CSH Board.
