New Years is always the time of year when people want to change their lives for a healthier lifestyle, and make new health plans. But is the New Year really the best time of year to be making resolutions and creating new life plans? New Year’s resolutions are notoriously hard to keep, in fact only one in ten manage to keep their resolutions. Here are our best tips on how to keep your resolutions and not get too disheartened when you slip up. 

1. Is January the Best Month for Starting a New Health Plan?

January is one of the coldest months of the year, and we all struggle with a thinner purse, darker mornings and cold weather. Is this really the time of year to be putting pressure on yourself to achieve an intense goal? Why not break down your resolution? For example, if you wanted to lose weight then you should take it a month at a time. Start off by cutting out bad foods and replacing them with fruit and vegetables. Next month, try walking to work if that’s possible.

2. Should Your Resolution Be Solo? 

Making drastic changes to your life can be hard, and it will make sense that you would want to have someone going through the journey with you. For example, if you are giving up smoking that can be very hard to do. Having a friend who is going through the same thing will make it easier for you, and harder to back out! 

Will it Affect Your life? 

One of the main troubles with resolutions is that they aren’t personal enough. Resolutions such as ‘lose weight’, or ‘be more organised’ are undertaken by most of the population, but if they don’t have any personal achievement for you then it will be harder for you to stick to it. Before starting your resolution make a list of all the things that will make your life better by losing weight. 

By sticking to a new year’s resolution there is nothing better than knowing that you have achieved something! At
